We are Taxdoo

When we are asked what Taxdoo actually does, we usually answer in this order.

  • Taxdoo is a Software as a Service (SaaS) for automated Value Added Taxcompliance.

What does Taxdoo do exactly?

If you then sometimes look into questioning faces, we will follow up with the following explanation.

  • Taxdoo enables cross-border trade in e-commerce

… and removes, for example, within the European Union (EU), one of the last major trade barriers, the handling of Value Added Tax cross-border deliveries.

In case the questioner is a tax consultant or accountant, and how I love boxed sets, we explain:

  • Taxdoo automatically obtains raw data from all conceivable sources in the field of e-commerce (e.g. via the APIs of marketplaces or ERP systems), prepares them for VAT purposes and can transfer them both for tax reporting abroad and at the push of a button to financial accounting.

Value Added Tax-Compliance becomes tangible: Our Dashboard

We know that tax advisors and online traders usually do not speak the same language.

Taxdoo use however meanwhile both online retailer as well as tax consultants.

The control takes place via a Dashboard which is simple and intuitive to use.

The dashboard is your control center. Here, for example.

  • Delivery thresholds monitored,
  • data into your own financial accounting,
  • Tax rates for products subject to reduced taxation determined EU-wide
  • other sales channels (e.g. eBay) or,
  • ERP systems (e.g. plentymarkets or JTL) are connected,
  • … .

Why can we?

We believe that the close connection between VAT and IT distinguishes us.

There are many IT-affine tax consultants and many tax-affine IT service providers. However, the focus is always only on one side.

Taxdoo connects both sides equally.

How?

Here is a short introduction of our founding team.

IT: Dr. Matthias Allmendinger

Matthias studied business administration in Mannheim, St. Gallen and London and received his doctorate in Hamburg.

The basis of his doctoral thesis was the scientific analysis of data.

Afterwards Matthias worked as a freelancer until the foundation of Taxdoo.

Together with his team Matthias makes sure that Taxdoo is constantly developing.

VATRoger Gothmann

I, Roger, am the Value Added Taxexpert on the team. Since I graduated from high school, I’ve only worked in the EUValue Added Tax .

I started out as a Value Added Taxspecial auditor in a tax office and then moved to the Federal Ministry of Finance. There I was responsible for the EU-wide coordination in this areaValue Added Tax .

Before founding Taxdoo, I worked as Head of Tax or VAT for a large federal foundation. I also write, when time permits, in specialist journals on the subject Value Added Tax or hold Value Added Taxseminars; and like most tax lawyers, I love nested sentences.

VAT-IT: Dr Christian Königsheim

Christian is the link between VAT IT and business. Not only does he make sure that the blog posts I write on tax issues can actually be read – without falling asleep prematurely.

Christian is the ideal mediator between IT and VAT, since he understands both ways of thinking and has already been involved in the analysis of large amounts of data during his doctorate. He manages to explain to even the last skeptic that Value Added Tax worldwide income taxes have replaced the income tax and is also ideally suited for automation.

But why our focus on e-commerce?

VAT in e-commerce or We love large amounts of data

Unlike, for example, a building contractor, an online merchant carries out a multiple number of tax-relevant transactions. In online trading, you quickly end up in the six-figure range – per month.

Imagine how an accountant or tax consultant should process these data sets manually (e.g. by EXCEL) and transfer them to the accounting department.

According to the feedback of our customers, the classical (to DATEV) converters often reach their performance limits with the above mentioned data volumes.

In addition, processes that have to be handled manually or triggered again each month involve high operational risks.

Especially in this areaValue Added Tax , this can quickly become a threat to your existence.

In order to control these risks, an e-commerce tax advisor now needs the skills of a data analyst.

The Value Added Tax-tools, which some marketplace operators, e.g. Amazon, meanwhile offer themselves do not offer complete and legally Value Added Taxcompliant compliance and hardly ever function fully automatically.

Taxdoo provides tax consultants and traders with the necessary tools and automatically reduces the risks of cross-border trade.

Taxdoo mediates

Until recently, the subject of cross-border trade was reserved for large companies with their own tax department.

Thanks to the reach of electronic marketplaces and innovative logistics infrastructures (e.g. Fulfillment by Amazon), retailers of all sizes are now affected.

Nevertheless, this topic is still largely uncharted territory for many online merchants, their tax consultants and many tax offices*.

Our blog now finds more than 3,000 readers per month. Among them are probably online traders, tax consultants, tax authorities and marketplace operators.

*Recently, a Value Added Taxspecial audit was carried out at one of our clients, in which the auditor received detailed information about trading on marketplaces.

Taxdoo does educational work

Not only in our blog but also in national and international trade media we regularly express our views and hope to spread more acceptance for this important topic.

Our outlook

VAT processes worldwide are predestined for automation.

The major tax consulting firms are aware of this. However, their current solutions often go hand in hand with extensive consulting projects and often result in macro-overloaded EXCEL files. This in turn involves operational risks, as the handling is often complicated and costly.

Using the Taxdoo API, companies of all sizes and sectors should be able to automatically prepare and monitor their raw data according to VAT criteria.

Based on current behavioural-economic findings, the processed tax information is already being transferred into a user interface (dashboard) that is understandable and intuitive to use. Taxdoo thus also reduces operational compliance risks.

Since we are really on fire for our topic, we don’t give you a conclusion this time but this catchy tune.
